Thankful | Weekend

weekend burning

Hi, as I sit here reflecting on my weekend- I have so much to be thankful for. You may hear me say many times, “I really do not want to wish my life away- however, I live for the weekends”. Each morning my feet hit the floor, I know it’s going to be a good day. Having had the joy of chemo and glows several years ago, it gave me a new perspective on life. It will be several years before I retire. Until then, I go to work (a four letter word) each week Monday through Friday. That’s not bad, just something one must do. Now the weekends are different. How the time is spent is of my choosing- a huge difference. This is why I love to live for the weekend!

Friday as I was driving home there was still daylight. I was reminiscing of the times Kevin would be burning the grass around the house. So as I was pulling into our drive, I had a delightful surprise!

No specific reason I enjoy this time of the year. Maybe it’s the sound of the burning crackling grass and the smell along with longer daylight hours that brings such great pleasure. Once the car was parked, I joined Kevin at the fence to watch and listen. Once the fire burnt out, I turned to look up the drive to the barn and the view was simply beautiful. The weekend was off to an excellent beginning.

These past several months, Kevin has been working evenings and weekends. It’s been awhile since we have had a breakfast date. I was thankful to enjoy one this weekend. I highly recommend the Retro Diner. The pancake breakfast was fabulous!

Thankful for Safe Lazy Days

thankful for merle

Hi, I am so thankful for safe lazy days! The past couple of weekends I have spent mostly at home not chancing my driving skills on the icy roads. I must admit, I did quite a bit of surfing- internet surfing that is!

One of my personal favorite speaker is Joel Osteen. His program this week covered- Feed your Destiny episode 714. Joel spoke of the importance to be a part of positive. This really hit home for me. I usually miss his TV program but am thankful for his webpage. Should you ever need uplifting, I recommend listening to one of Joel’s broadcast.

During my surfing, I found another inspirational webpage- ThankfulMe.net. Have you ever been in just a blah mood- not feeling good and not feeling bad? Well on this lazy filled day I was just that. Literally stumbled upon Kristi’s webpage and it’s now bookmarked as one of my favorites. Mind you that I had just listened to Joel stating that one should be with positive, encouraging people. Kristi lifted my spirits up with her simple Ten Things of Thankful. So I had to think of what I was thankful for these past couple of weekends.

First and foremost I am thankful for my husband who makes sure we have plenty of firewood to keep this stove burning; keeping the house warm!

Second for the moisture we are receiving- may our summer be drought free.

Third, for the road crews who keep the roads safe to travel.

And next, for Merle who keeps me company on these lazy days.

Kmart Closing – a Very Sad Day

kmart

kmart cart
Hi, what a sad day for me. I heard Kmart is closing one of it’s stores that I frequent quite often. Most every time I visit my daughter I just have to make a stop at the North Topeka Kmart. There is a Wal-Mart just across the roadway, but I like the smaller less crowded discount store.

When I heard of the closing, I drove to Topeka without making plans to visit my daughter- imagine that! The sales were good, but not like the ones I experienced when the Lawrence Kmart closed. The actual store closing will be in April. There will be plenty of time to check out the specials. My focus will be on electronics and a few furniture pieces- baby crib and such!

This visit I was on a mission for flannel sheets and a coat/jacket I had seen just before Christmas. Score….Both were on sale- they are in my cart! On my next stops, I will be looking for items I can use in my next home. Will explain more in a new post about the “next” home.

Do you have a preference- Kmart or Wal-Mart and why do you like that store?
