Briella’s Fifth Birthday

Hi, this gma and gpa had the time of our life with Briella. We had made prior arrangements to spend this past weekend together. It was fun filled- late night Friday, early morning breakfast and Moon Marble.

Friday evening was low key, just hanging out at the house visiting. Saturday began with breakfast at the Waffle House.

After breakfast we headed over to the Marble Moon Co. Several years ago when Erika and Adam were kids we took them to this same place. Thought it would be fun to take Brie- tradition! I was terrible and did not get as many images as I should have. Below are a few, and of course if you visit the link- it will have more for you to see. There is no charge to see the marble making demonstration. We did purchase a few marbles and a T-shirt on the way out.

The demonstration was full. Many people of different walks of life- one group (school kids) was from Korea. It was fun hearing the interactions between them and the person giving the demonstration!

And then my favorite part of the weekend- a mini photo shoot with Brie!

A truly fun weekend celebrating Briella’s fifth birthday. Now I’m already wanting to find more fun, free things to do with our grand-daughters! If you have any suggestions, please share. Thanks!

Grandpa’s Burger Box

Best burger this side of the kaw!

Hi there! The first time I drove past this little pop diner I laughed. Never giving a thought of trying it out. Well it was Kevin who took me there one Saturday for lunch.

It was on a day we were working on the house and Kevin said he’d take me out for lunch. It was 10:45 am when we left the house- thinking we were going to KC for our lunch. It’s about a 6 minute drive to Tonganoxie. He whipped into the parking lot for Grandpa’s Burger Box. I laughed and laughed (anyone who knows my belly laugh insert it here now….). Kevin said he wanted to get our order in now before it gets busy. This place is small. Outside of the cashier and cook, we were the only ones there.

You have seen the wooden storage sheds people have in their backyards right? Well Grandpa’s Burger Box is two of these placed side by side. Painted and renovated for making hamburgers and fries!

Okay when you walk through that door, this is the lobby area. Again small. But lots of fun things to see while you wait for your food. Just around the corner from the door is the window where you place your order. The cashier takes your order and rings it up. Then it is cooked to order while you wait. There is a bench to sit on, but I was busy looking at the walls.

For such a tiny place, the pins show a large number of people who have sought out a delicious burger!

Keep in mind we got there at 10:45 am. Once we placed our order within 15 minutes, there were several people who came to pick up there call in order and there was a line beginning to form by 11 am. It’s a hoppin little place!

When our order was ready and we took it back home. There are several picnic tables outside that are clean to sit and eat. As I said it’s about a 6 minute drive back to the house. Once there I took my burger and fries and laid them on a plate. Steam was rolling up from the french fries they were that hot. Just the way I like them!

If you are ever near KC, I highly recommend that you drive a mere 30 miles (from Legends) west for the best burger this side of the Kaw!

Visiting Phoenix

Visiting Phoenix

Hi, I had the time of my life while visiting family in Arizona. This trip was much needed. My Auntie P invited me to come stay with her. She asked me how long I wanted to stay. Hmm…..I was thinking, how long could I stay before my welcome wore out?! 🙂 Hesitantly I requested three full days. My Aunt said okay and the trip was a total of 5 days- day 1 travel, three days in AZ and the fifth day travel home. Her home is best described as a resort- no kidding!

This is the beautiful room where I spent four nights resting peacefully!

And the pool/hot tub was gorgeous.

Phyllis and Jeff kept me busy the whole time. Several times they asked what I wanted to do or see. Just being there, away from my everyday normal life was entertaining. The main souvenir I wanted from this adventure was a sweatshirt and a silver ring. Of course all the many images I took would be a treasure as well.

When I think of this trip, I will remember the quality time I shared with my Aunt Phyllis and Jeff in Phoenix and all the cactus. So many everywhere. I had no idea. I truly had the time of my life- thank you Aunt P!

Many more images here.
